A 44-year-old man will serve more than 20 years in prison for abducting and assaulting his fiancée in a horrifying episode that occurred a few years ago.
Salvador Martinez entered a guilty plea to many offenses in April and was given a sentence of 25 years and 4 months in state prison on July 21. Arsoning an inhabited building, avoiding an officer, causing bodily harm, kidnapping, criminal threats, and possessing a firearm while a felon were among the allegations.
The Attack and Kidnapping
Martinez and his girlfriend got into a fight over her cellphone on May 17, 2020, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
According to the authorities, Martinez beat his girlfriend viciously, tearing her clothes, repeatedly punching her, yanking her by the hair, striking her with the phone, and even choking her until she fainted.
Then, according to the prosecution, Martinez pushed his girlfriend into his car while threatening her with a gun and hitting her repeatedly while he was driving. She escaped and called for assistance after he took her to his cousin’s residence. She was supposedly threatened with death by Martinez.
Martinez left the scene before police could arrive, despite the victim’s family calling the police. After being transported to a hospital, the victim received treatment for head injuries that needed staples, facial bruises, and a concussion.
Arson and Pursuit
The victim’s home caught fire on May 20, 2020, a few days after the incident. A gas can and security footage of a car that looked like Martinez’s were later discovered by investigators.
Martinez was taken into custody for the domestic abuse attack on May 23, 2023. Even though he was soon freed on bail following his arrest, the lawsuit continued.
Martinez was stopped by police on June 4 in connection with the arson case. This resulted in a perilous pursuit, during which Martinez fled with his moving vehicle but was apprehended.
A Long Road to Justice
“While the physical and emotional scars of such a brutal attack may linger, we commend the immense resilience and courage demonstrated by the victim and her family throughout this harrowing ordeal,” said Deputy District Attorney Rikole Kelly, who expressed admiration for the victim’s strength and courage during this trying time.
We hope that now that this issue has been resolved, they can start the process of recovering and moving forward fearlessly.
The Sentence and Its Impact
Martinez’s 25-year sentence gives the victim and her family a feeling of justice, but the assault’s emotional toll will never go away. The sentence provides them optimism that they won’t have to live in continual terror of Martinez’s presence in their life going ahead.
