In a tragic case from Ohio, prosecutors claim that a 7-year-old boy with special needs who weighed only 19 pounds when he was discovered died as a result of unthinkable mistreatment. Multiple felony charges have now been brought against his mother, 29-year-old S. Hardiman, and her partner, 28-year-old J. Mulvey.
Discovery of the Child
When police arrived at a house on June 2, 2023, they found the young child dead. In addition to having epilepsy and cerebral palsy, he was significantly underweight for a child his age.
He passed away from cerebral palsy-related starvation and dehydration, with epilepsy identified as a contributory factor, according to an autopsy. It was determined to be a homicide. The youngster was described as completely malnourished by the prosecution.
Charges Against the Adults
Mulvey was charged with child endangerment and involuntary manslaughter after his arrest last week. The boy’s mother, Hardiman, was charged with three charges of endangering the child, two counts of murder, and one act of involuntary manslaughter. A warrant for her arrest has been issued, and she is now evading capture.
Mulvey had a basic obligation to ensure that his basic dietary needs were addressed, Chief Criminal Prosecutor J. Wilson underlined.Authorities think that both people purposefully let the boy’s condition decline.
Mulvey s Court Appearance
Mulvey entered a not guilty plea. He said in court that he needed to take care of his late father’s affairs and continue getting ready to start an auto repair company, so he asked to be released with an ankle monitor. His father had committed suicide right before the cops showed up to take him into custody.
Mulvey also claimed to have fulfilled his previous probationary commitments and disclosed to the court that he had another child from a previous relationship.”I don’t believe I should be here at all,” he remarked, but that’s for another time.I’ll participate in this procedure. I myself need answers.
The judge refused his request for release and set a $300,000 bond. Mulvey will next appear in court on September 10 and is currently being held at the county correctional facility.
The Mother Still at Large
Hardiman is still at large as Mulvey awaits trial. The charges against her, according to the prosecution, encompass two legal theories: that she failed to take action to stop her son’s death and that she was the direct cause of it. Authorities are still looking for her.
