The Boston Fleet selected defender Haley Winn with the second overall pick in the Professional Women’s Hockey League draft.
Winn was a standout player at Clarkson University for four years, scoring 130 points in his career.
Additionally, Boston selected Ohio State defender Riley Brengman in the fourth round, Boston College forward Abby Newhook in the fifth, Ohio State goaltender Amanda Thiele in the sixth, University of Minnesota forward Ella Huber in the second round, and Olivia Mobley of the University of Minnesota Duluth in the third.
The New York Sirens traded up to draft the University of Wisconsin standout, and Milton native Casey O. Brien was selected third overall.
PWHL MVP awarded to Montreal Victoire captain Marie-Philip Poulin, who also won Forward of the Year, although former Fleet leader Hilary Knight was a finalist.
Knight scored 29 points in 30 games, tying for the league scoring title. Knight led the Fleet in goals (15) and assists (14) and was named a first-team All-Star. Seattle signed Knight to a one-year contract after she was not protected in the PWHL expansion draft.
Aerin Frankel, the league’s top goalie with 642 saves, was selected as a second-team All-Star for Fleet.
