BOSTON — The

Red Sox

optioned right-handed reliever

Isaiah Campbell

to

Triple-A Worcester

after their

4-3 win over the Rays

on Thursday, according to an industry source.

That clears a 26-man roster spot for righty

Hunter Dobbins

who is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list Friday to start against the Rays here at Fenway Park.

Boston also optioned infielder David Hamilton to Worcester

Thursday, clearing a spot for All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman’s return from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Campbell’s stay with the big league team was brief.

He was selected to the 40-man roster Tuesday

and spent three games on the active roster.

He pitched Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies, allowing two runs on four hits in 2 innings.

Dobbins missed just 18 games on the IL with a right elbow strain. The 25-year-old rookie has gone 4-1 with a 4.10 ERA (59 ⅓ innings, 27 earned runs), 1.26 WHIP, 43 strikeouts and 16 walks in 12 games (10 starts).
