Jaguar Land Rover North America is recalling more than 20,000 vehicles due to concerns the passenger airbags may tear when deployed and burn someone with hot glass.
The
recall
is for certain 2021 through 2025 Range Rover Evoque vehicles, according to the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
.
In total, 20,999 Range Rovers are being recalled because when the airbags deploy, they may tear as a result of improper folding of the airbag during its assembly process. Jaguar estimates that all of these recalled vehicles could have the defect.
“A torn airbag may reduce the occupant protection and therefore increase risk of injury in the event of a crash,” the administration wrote in a
July 7 report
. “A torn airbag may also allow the escape of hot glasses which may cause burns to occupants.”
No reported accidents, injuries or fires have been reported under this recall. Dealers will replace the passenger airbag module, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on Aug. 29.
