A Flash Flood Warning is currently in effect for parts of central Iowa, including the western portions of the Des Moines metro area, as heavy rainfall continues to impact the region.
Between 2 to 4 inches of rain have already fallen, with additional rainfall expected to range from 1 to 3 inches per hour throughout the morning. Flash flooding remains a major concern, particularly in low-lying areas and places with poor drainage systems.
The National Weather Service has issued the warning until 10:00 AM CDT Sunday, July 20, 2025. The heavy rain could cause flooding on roadways, underpasses, and small streams.
Areas such as Dallas Center, Adel, Waukee, Redfield, and Earlham are expected to experience rapid water accumulation, leading to dangerous driving conditions.
Residents in these areas are advised to move to higher ground and avoid traveling through any floodwaters. With up to 3 inches of additional rain possible, flash flooding is likely to worsen, especially near rivers and creeks.
Motorists should remain cautious and avoid flooded roadways while local authorities monitor the water levels. Flash flood alerts are subject to change, and further updates may be provided as conditions evolve.
