Mercurial ex-Patriots cornerback returns to AFC East

Jack Jones will be returning to the AFC East.

The Miami Dolphins have offered the former Patriots cornerback a one-year contract. Jones was selected by New England in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, despite his undeniable potential, but he only played in Foxborough for a season and a half.

Due to character issues that dogged him during college and his inability to avoid conflict with the Patriots, Jones was selected in the fourth round.

Due to Bill Belichick’s dissatisfaction with the cornerback’s injury rehabilitation, he was suspended to end his rookie season. The following offseason, Jones was arrested for smuggling firearms to Logan Airport. Jones was benched for skipping curfew in his second season, and in November 2023, amid further conflict with the coaching staff, he was fired.

For the rest of 2023 and 2024, Jones remained with the Raiders and his previous coach Antonio Pierce; however, Jones was dismissed in April after Pierce was sacked in January.

Jones is a ballhawking cornerback with seven interceptions in 42 games played. He has also picked off Aaron Rodgers, Joe Burrow, and Patrick Mahomes.

Of the 10 players selected in the 2022 NFL Draft by New England, only Marcus Jones and Cole Strange remain with the Patriots.
