Michigan Woman Fatally Stabs Co-Worker After Being Sent Home From Work

Published On:

Following a fight at work, a 39-year-old single mother of six was fatally stabbed by her younger coworker in Michigan, causing a stunning occurrence that has left the town in mourning.

The accused, who had a history of violent behavior, is facing major criminal charges as a result of the incident.

What Happened?

Police were called to a workplace on the morning of July 10 following complaints of a gunshot wound and a violent stabbing. J. Harris, the victim, had been employed at the same eatery for more than 15 years.

She got into a fight with a 26-year-old coworker, who was ultimately identified as A. Muhamad, earlier that day. Following the argument, Harris made the decision to send her coworker home early.

Regretfully, the choice proved fatal.

A Planned and Violent Return

Muhamad allegedly drove to a neighboring park to relax rather than returning home. But shortly after, she made the decision to bring a big knife in her car and head back to the restaurant. She went through the employee entrance of the restaurant, wearing a mask to conceal her identity.

She then attacked Harris, fatally wounding her with several knife wounds.

Customer Steps In With Legal Gun

One of the customers who saw the attack attempted to halt it. To divert the assailant, he shot through the drive-thru window while lawfully carrying a concealed weapon.

The same customer followed her and kept her at gunpoint until the police arrived, thwarting the attacker’s attempt to flee towards her car.

Luckily, the shot did not damage anyone else.

Suspect s Confession

Muhamad said police after being arrested that she went back to the restaurant with the goal of killing Harris. She even attested to donning a mask and sneaking in covertly to escape detection.

Charges and Legal Action

Muhammad faces official charges of first-degree premeditated murder, a crime that carries a life sentence without the possibility of release under Michigan law. Due to a prior stabbing conviction in another state, she is also facing a weapons charge and a chronic offender enhancement.

She is being held at the county jail at the moment, with a $25 million bond.

She entered a not guilty plea at her arraignment on July 11 and her attorney requested—and the judge granted—a mental health evaluation. September 3 is the date of her upcoming hearing.

A Devastating Loss for the Family

J. Harris, the victim, was a single mother of six kids. Her family, coworkers, and the community have all been profoundly impacted by her untimely demise. In her honor, relatives and friends gathered at the restaurant on July 14 for a balloon release vigil.

To gather money for her children’s education and future needs, a GoFundMe page has been created.

Community Reactions and Ongoing Investigation

Questions concerning job safety and how interpersonal disputes can have terrible outcomes have been brought up by this incident. Given that Harris was a well-known, compassionate individual who had worked in the area for many years, the community has voiced its astonishment and loss.

Prosecutors are still looking into the suspect’s criminal past, and the police investigation is still ongoing.
