Boston won’t have two Durans.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Philadelphia Phillies are on the verge of signing star closer Jhoan Duran from the Minnesota Twins.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY, the Twins will acquire Mick Abel and Eduardo Tait in the trade. Abel is ranked No. 6 and Tait is the Phillies’ No. 4 prospect.
Joan’s name was mentioned a lot on the eve of the MLB trade deadline and was associated with a number of teams, including the Red Sox. Even though Boston’s bullpen already features closer Aroldis Chapman, the team hoping to contend in the postseason would gain from having another bullpen arm.
With 49 appearances, Duran has a 2.01 ERA, 18 walks, and 53 strikeouts. In addition, he has 16 saves.
The Red Sox did inquire about Duran, according to Sean McAdam of MassLive, but the Twins’ asking price was high because they wanted to get the most money for the great closer.
The Phillies now occupy the second National League Wild Card slot with a record of 61-46 heading into their game against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday.
