Cowboys star pass-rusher requests trade: ‘I no longer want to be here’

Micah Parsons desires a new beginning.

The Cowboys star linebacker expressed his desire for a trade out of Dallas on social media. I no longer want to be here, Parsons wrote in a long message that was uploaded on X.

A portion of the statement is as follows:

Yes, I did want to be present. I wore the star on my helmet and did everything I could to demonstrate my desire to be a cowboy. Making this America’s team again and playing in front of the greatest sports fans were my goals. Up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, my dad and I grew up supporting this team. Regretfully, I don’t want to stay here any longer. Negotiations behind closed doors without my agency there is something I no longer want to do. I no longer want to be criticized for getting hurt while risking my life for the team, our supporters, and my teammates. I no longer want stories about me to be written and disseminated to the media.

A contract dispute has existed between the two parties. The last year of Parsons’ contract is about to start.

Hours after Dianna Russini of The Athletic revealed that Parsons might look to move, the announcement was made. One major problem was that Parsons and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had direct communications during the summer, but Parsons wanted his agent to handle all contract negotiations, so he thought the conversations were merely conversations.

Jones acknowledged in the summer that he didn’t know Parson’s name while speaking with his agent, David Mulugheta, directly. That attracted Parsons’ attention.

The Cowboys selected Parsons with the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. With 52.5 sacks in his first four seasons, he immediately established himself as a force for Dallas. The 26-year-old is a two-time First-Team All-Pro and has been selected to the Pro Bowl each of his four seasons.

In as many days, this is the second top player to ask for a trade. Terry McLaurin, a wide receiver for the Washington Commanders, reportedly expressed a desire to be dealt on Thursday.
