Mike Vrabel won’t address possibility of Terry McLaurin, Micah Parsons being Patriots trade candidates

FOXBORO Two elite players asked for trades late this week if the Patriots want to significantly expand their roster before the season starts.

Due to contract disputes, Cowboys edge defender Micah Parsons and Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin both want to leave. If the Commanders or Cowboys complied with their requests, head coach Mike Vrabel was asked Friday if the Patriots would be interested.

Vrabel declared that he would not talk about players from other teams.

Vrabel remarked, “Let’s concentrate on the people we’re working with who are here.” In the National Football League, we see all of these events, whether they take place during the off-season or before to the start of the season. Everybody is dealing with various circumstances. We shall therefore concentrate on our circumstances while those players and teams will concentrate on theirs.

At the very least, the Patriots ought to ask about both guys. With the addition of Parsons, the Patriots’ defense would rank among the top five on paper, while McLaurin would make the wide receiver room among the finest in the NFL.

Vrabel acknowledged that the Patriots have flexibility if any possible trades arise because they have the most cap space in the NFL, but he stated that he is focused on his existing roster.

On their 90-man roster right now are the Patriots’ Stefon Diggs, DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, Kendrick Bourne, rookie Kyle Williams, Ja Lynn Polk, Javon Baker, Efton Chism, John Jiles, and Jeremiah Webb. If McLaurin were acquired through a trade, he would join Diggs and Douglas in a starting position.

Over the past five seasons, 29-year-old McLaurin has amassed more than 1,000 receiving yards. After being chosen in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, he has accumulated 460 career catches for 6,379 yards and 38 touchdowns in six years. With the Commanders, he was selected to the Pro Bowl twice. He wants a new contract even though he is currently in the middle of a three-year, $68.2 million pact. As a two-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowl pick, Parsons, 26, is among the best players in the NFL. Since the Cowboys selected him 12th overall out of Penn State in the 2021 NFL Draft, he has not been given a contract extension.

In each of his four seasons, the Cowboys pass rusher has recorded at least 12 sacks. K Lavon Chaisson, Keion White, and Harold Landry are the Patriots’ best edge defenders. Bradyn Swinson, Elijah Ponder, Anfernee Jennings, and Truman Jones complete the group.

Even after seeking trades, NFL superstars are rarely dealt. In order to obtain an enhanced contract, players usually use a trade request as additional leverage.
