Patriots coach Mike Vrabel doesn’t take bait on Terry McLaurin/Micah Parsons question

FoxBoroughTerry McLaurin, the standout receiver for Washington, has requested a trade.

The same is true with Micah Parsons, a Dallas star linebacker.

If the Commanders accept McLaurin’s demand, may the Patriots test the tires? If the Cowboys decide to sell Parsons, will you do the same?

The question was posed to Patriots coach Mike Vrabel at his press conference on Friday night prior to the season-ticket holders’ in-stadium scrimmage.

He also made the typical coaching evasion.

Regarding players who are under contract at other times, I will not comment. Vrabel stated, “Let’s concentrate on the ones that are here and that we are working with.” Whether during the offseason or prior to the start of the season, we see all of these events in the National Football League.

Everybody is dealing with various circumstances, and each squad and player will concentrate on their own circumstances. We’ll concentrate on ours.

Vrabel was then questioned about his thoughts on the Patriots’ $60 million in cap space, which is the most in the league, and how he feels about having so much flexibility.

For example, Vrabel’s response did not necessarily rule out a trade for McLaurin, but it is not his top priority right now.

“It’s just that we could do certain things if something came up,” Vrabel explained. We’re concentrating on our roster at the moment.

Through free agency and then having to distribute it over the following two years, including this year and next year, when we look at the cap expiring at the end of the two years, I believe we made an effort to stay as near to the plan as possible.

Inquiring into Vrabel’s desire to win this season—another tactic to gauge interest in McLaurin or Parsons—and whether he would be open to giving up a high draft pick, the Patriots coach likewise declined to fall for that ruse.

He said, “We can discuss a million different topics.” Let’s just concentrate on the fact that we ought to feel compelled to succeed each and every day that we report to work. Let the question be about that.
