Ahead of EuroBasket 2025, Neemias Queta and Portugal made headlines when they upset Spain in a historic scrimmage. But in Portugal’s next match against Spain B, Queta sustained what the team described as a slight hip injury, raising some concerns.
However, according to local reports, Queta is doing well ahead of the EuroBasket 2025 competition. Portugal’s remaining warm-up matches are against Sweden on Saturday and Iceland on Friday.Due to an NBA deal, Queta will only play 14–15 minutes per game even though he will suit up for both of the back-to-back games. Therefore, he will not play for Portugal in the exhibition games.
The only Celtics player scheduled to compete in EuroBasket 2025 is Queta. His Portuguese team will play in the competition’s Group A in Riga, Latvia. In group play matches, they will play the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Turkey, and Serbia. Notably, Queta will face Kristaps Porzingis, a former big man for the C’s, who is playing for his home country of Latvia.
Being one of the last seeds in the tournament, Portugal has little experience with the EuroBasket. However, Queta has produced some strong work, particularly in the recent shock victory over Spain. In any case, Queta will have strong competition before the NBA season.Queta also had knee surgery in the offseason, but it doesn’t appear to have had any impact on him.
Given that Queta is expected to play a significant part on the club next season, Celtics supporters have a little more motivation to see how he performs this summer.
