Slimmer? Grandpa? Josh McDaniels blitzed with banter during rare mid-game interview

Interviews with New England Patriots coaches on the field are rare. Seeing one conversing while live game action is taking place behind him is even more uncommon.

Josh McDaniels was in that situation on Saturday. Wearing a headset, the offensive coordinator for the Patriots spoke with Scott Zolak, Jason McCourty, and Devin McCourty from WBZ’s preseason broadcast team.

While McDaniels was coaching in New England, the McCourty twins played there as well, and they had a great time with their former coach.

Jason McCourty only needed to inquire about his experience returning to the Patriots for his third tenure with the franchise. Rather, he observed how rejuvenated McDaniels appeared.

You’ve lost a lot of weight, I must say. You look nice. Jason McCourty remarked, “You seem to have been working out on the beach and you came back with a nice little tan.” How does returning to New England feel?

Taking the issue in stride, McDaniels emphasized the significance of returning to New England.

“My family and I call this home,” McDaniels stated. Look, there is a reason why the Lord accomplishes certain things and places various challenges in our lives. However, I’m thrilled to be back working for the Krafts with Coach Vrabel, his team, and this group of people. It has been amazing, and as we work to go forward, we look forward to attempting to do good things here.

Devin McCourty had some fun with the coach’s age as his brother concentrated on how well McDaniels looked. Tom Brady, who is roughly his age, was being coached by McDaniels not too long ago. Drake Maye, 22, is currently being coached by McDaniels, 49.

Devin McCourty then asked: Are you referred to as “grandpa” by them?

They don’t. “But you guys know why I have grey hair now,” McDaniels remarked, laughing. That’s what this game will do to you. It feels different, though. at 2001, at the age of 24, I made my debut appearance at Foxborough.

Being able to continue working here at the age of nearly fifty has been a blessing for my family and me, and I’m excited for this season. McDaniels went on.

Since McDaniels’ return, the Patriots have shown encouraging early signs. In their first preseason game, New England defeated the Washington Commanders by a score of thirty. The squad was ahead 14-3 at the break on Saturday.
