Bill Belichick breaking tradition at UNC by skipping longstanding media commitment (report)

Between hosting podcasts, going on a media tour for his book The Art of Winning, and making weekly appearances on The Pat McAfee Show and the Manning Cast, Bill Belichick spent 2024 doing a ton of media appearances.

In order to get ready for the 2025 season, the UNC coach will be bringing The Patriot Way to the Tar Heels in more ways than just introducing his new team to the New England Patriots.

Belichick will not appear on Carolina Football Live (previously Mack Brown Live), the school’s weekly coach’s radio program, on a weekly basis, according to Reuters.

Belichick won’t be making regularly scheduled appearances, but he will make a cameo on the first episode that airs on August 27. Every week, Michael Lombardi, the general manager of UNC and a close buddy of Belichick, will be the main attraction. According to Reuters, players and assistant coaches will also join him.

A lot of college football coaches are required by contract to be on their school’s weekly radio programs. Not Belichick, though.

His contract simply requires him to come when the university legitimately requests him to.

It will be Belichick’s first season as a collegiate coach in 2025. Belichick rarely made media appearances during his 24-year tenure in New England, other from his halftime interviews from the sidelines, weekly radio spots, and postgame interviews.

Belichick rarely made media appearances outside of his duties as the Patriots’ coach for 24 years, although he did conduct a weekly interview on WEEI.
