Musk throws JD Vance a lifeline: He’s tapping the brakes on starting a third party

Elon Musk, a tech entrepreneur and former DOGE Czar, made headlines in July when he revealed his intentions to launch a third party to break the Republican and Democratic hold on the country’s political system.

The CEO of SpaceX, X, and Tesla, however, seems to have realized that’s easier said than done a little over a month later.

The Wall Street Journal claims that Musk is abandoning those intentions in order to concentrate on his commercial pursuits and to prevent stealing votes from Republicans, whose fortunes would probably suffer if a third party emerged.

According to The Journal, which cited sources familiar with Musk’s plans, Musk considered keeping up ties with Vice President JD Vance, who is generally regarded as President Donald Trump’s heir, when he considered starting The America Party.

The Journal was informed by those same individuals that Musk is thinking of using his wealth once more to help Vance in the 2028 presidential election, should he want to run. According to the tabloid, Musk contributed $300 million to Trump’s second attempt to win the presidency in 2024.

According to the publication, Musk’s supporters stated that he hasn’t officially ruled out starting a new party and that he might change his mind as the midterm elections draw near.

According to a recent MassLive investigation, Musk’s third party may encounter major obstacles even if he chooses to move forward. This contains state-specific ballot access laws.

Musk was also unable to run for president because he was a native South African.

The Journal was directed by a Vance representative to an interview the Ohio Republican conducted with the conservative website Gateway Pundit.

Vance stated in that interview that splitting from Trump and the conservative movement would be a mistake.

Vance told the publication, “I hope he’s kind of returned to the fold by the time of the midterms.”

One analyst said the action was completely anticipated.

Following the highly public termination of his feud with the president, Musk exploded on social media in a fit of rage with Trump (and the larger Republican party), political analyst Chris Cillizza wrote on Wednesday.

And while he was composing it, he undoubtedly thought it was true. However, Musk is fundamentally a businessman. Cillizza remarked, “And people in the business world solve for one thing and one thing only: Money.”
