A 59-year-old woman in Maine is still in the hospital following a horrific axe attack by her 19-year-old grandson in a startling example of domestic violence. Ethan H., the adolescent, informed detectives that he was ordered to kill her by demons. He was taken into custody and is currently being charged with several felonies.
The Attack Inside the Family Home
The incident happened inside the grandparents’ house on August 17 at approximately 6:40 p.m. The sheriff’s office claims that Ethan and his grandfather got into a fight, which sparked the violence. Ethan betrayed his grandmother when she intervened to defuse the conflict.
Deputies were informed by the victim that Ethan threw a knife at her before grabbing an axe. He allegedly stated, “I’m sorry, Grammie, but I have to,” as she attempted to flee, and then repeatedly hit her in the head and arms.
In order to save her life, surgeons had to remove a portion of her skull during surgery after she was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Arrest After Short Manhunt
A brief manhunt began when Ethan left the house before deputies could arrive. Soon after, police discovered him strolling down a nearby road and took him into custody without any further issues.
Ethan reportedly admitted to investigators that he had been hearing voices while being questioned. He said that voices in his head were asking him to kill his grandma because devils were telling him to do so.
Previous Tensions and Family Struggles
Although the cause for the earlier prohibition has not been disclosed, authorities acknowledged that Ethan had previously been prohibited from his grandparents’ house. He was present at the residence on the day of the attack in spite of this. His past criminal history and mental health diagnoses have not yet been disclosed by the police.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
At the moment, Ethan is being held without bond in the county jail. Domestic violence raised aggravated assault, domestic violence aggravated assault, and attempted murder are the charges against him. A court date has not yet been set, and he has not yet filed a plea.
Family and Community in Shock
The family is traumatized and finds it difficult to accept that their own house was the site of the attack. As she recovers from severe injuries, the victim is still fighting for her life in the hospital.
Ethan’s claims of hearing voices may be used as part of his defense, according to investigators who say they are still looking into the matter. For the time being, the severity of the assault and the gravity of the allegations highlight the perils of untreated mental illness and the devastating effects it can have on families.
