The Las Vegas squad from the Summerlin South Little League is the Mountain Region’s representative and the winner of Saturday’s United States Championship Game. Since arriving in Williamsport, the team has only lost once, to the Metro Region team from Fairfield, Connecticut, who they faced in the championship. Fairfield defeated Las Vegas 7-3 on Wednesday, August 20, requiring Las Vegas to play another game to secure a championship berth. After winning that game, it defeated Fairfield 8–2 in the rematch on Saturday to become the United States Champions and earn a spot in the Little League World Series Championship.
The final team still unbeaten in Williamsport is the Asia-Pacific Region squad, which hails from Chinese Taipei and is 4-0. In its four games, the team has given up just three runs, and all of those came against the Venezuelan team from the Latin America Region. Apart from that game, it has been all shutouts, including two games against the Caribbean Region’s Santa Cruz, Aruba, club. Chinese Taipei defeated Santa Cruz 4-0 on Monday and then triumphed 1-0 in the International Championship on Saturday to win one title and qualify for another.
