Alex Bregman is rapidly approaching a return to the Red Sox lineup as his six-week evaluation approaches the conclusion of the week.
“Based on his behavior, he’s almost fully recovered,” manager Alex Cora stated on Monday afternoon.
As he sat in the dugout on Monday afternoon, he declared, “I feel really good. Today was the best I’ve felt during the rehab process, the fastest I’d run, and I resumed full baseball activity.” This is many weeks earlier than we had anticipated.
A quad strain, which kept the Houston Astros star out of action for 10 weeks during the 21 season, forced the veteran third baseman to leave the top half of a Red Sox/Orioles doubleheader on May 23.
This time, Bregman started talking about how terrific he felt and how he was recuperating more quickly almost immediately after the injury. His most recent test over the weekend revealed that his feelings are in line with his physical condition.
That was confirmed by another ultrasound I had yesterday, Bregman added. It demonstrated that it is mending remarkably well.
Though he and the Red Sox are aware that they cannot be hurried, Bregman is eager to return to the game. He has to increase the amount of his runs, particularly when they are fast.
Bregman stated, “We’re kind of taking it day by day.” We’re much ahead of where we anticipated being at this stage, of course, but you don’t want to rush things too much.
He went on to say, “We have a lot of running on the agenda this week.” The ability to play baseball easily and run quickly without thinking about it is the most important aspect of this.
However, if this week’s training goes well, a rehab assignment might be the next step. perhaps even better.
To be honest, I’m not sure yet if it will include going to rehab or if it will simply involve mimicking the volume here and returning to participate in major league games immediately. Bregman uttered such words.
Cora stated less than a week ago that Bregman would probably make a comeback following the All-Star break (the schedule resumes on July 18). When asked on Monday if he thought he may play before the break, Bregman replied, “Maybe, we’ll see.”
Cora joked that Bregman was similar to the renowned Red Sox Dirt Dog Dustin Pedroia, saying, “He feels great, but obviously we have to be smart about it, but things are trending in the right direction.” Take about 15 percent off if they say 90 percent.
