Another cash for ‘Weapons’

Los Angeles Weapons defeated newcomer Nobody 2 and Freakier Friday to take the top spot at the box office in its first weekend and hold it there for its second.

In 3,450 North American cinemas, Zach Cregger’s horror brought in $25 million, a 43% decrease from its opening weekend earnings. Strong audience reviews and social media trends helped the eagerly awaited movie draw sizable audiences.

The Freakier With $14.5 million in domestic revenue, Friday, which lost the race for top place to Weapons during its double premiere, also held onto its second position. According to Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for the data company Comscore, the movie’s enduring appeal occurs over a sluggish weekend at the box office.

Additionally, both movies defeated the R-rated action sequel Nobody 2. In its first weekend of release, the Bob Odenkirk-starring movie brought in $9.25 million at 3,260 theaters in North America.

Dergarabedian noted the box office success of films like Deadpool and Wolverine as well as the horror sci-fi film Alien: Romulus that debuted around this time last year, saying that August came on strong last year, making comparisons difficult.

He noted that while it is unlikely to reach the $4 billion milestone this summer, it was successful in offering moviegoers a varied and exciting selection of films.

Dergarabedian stated, “I can’t think of a genre that isn’t represented or a demographic that wouldn’t be drawn to one of these films out there.” It’s just a diverse selection of movies that appeal to all age groups.

Following the pandemic success of the first installment in the series, Nobody, which came out in 2021, comes Nobody 2. The assassin-turned-nice-guy, played by Odenkirk, Hutch Mansell, makes a comeback to the big screen in the sequel, this time on a much-needed family vacation that goes horribly wrong. As Mansell reveals a corrupt town, the peaceful weekend takes a turn for the worse.

Universal Pictures’ head of domestic distributes, Jim Orr, stated that he thinks the film’s 89% audience rating and B+ CinemaScore indicate a lengthy and prosperous run at the domestic box office.

During its fourth weekend in theaters, The Fantastic Four: First Steps earned $8.8 million domestically, placing it in fourth place. After a spectacular $118 million debut, the movie faltered at the box office.

The Bad Guys 2, another sequel, earned $7.5 million in its third weekend of release, placing it in fifth place.

“Notably, foreign films made a splash in the top 15 this weekend,” Dergarabedian said.

Indian action thriller Coolie made its home debut in tenth place, followed by another Indian action film, War 2, at eleventh. Shin Godzilla, a Japanese movie that debuted in 2016, was re-released domestically and ranked 12th.
