Cole Spicer’s tenure at Arizona State came to an abrupt end.
After committing to the Sun Devils in April, the 2022 Boston Bruins lottery pick will not play for them, according to Brad Elliott Schlossman of the Grand Forks Herald, who also noted that the team has moved on from Spicer.
Although the reason for the center’s decision to stop playing for Arizona is unknown, 98.5 was confirmed by a person with firsthand knowledge of the matter. According to Ty Anderson of The Sports Hub, Spicer is battling serious injury problems.
Spicer, who missed the Bruins development camp earlier this summer, played for Minnesota Duluth for two seasons until his sophomore campaign ended when he was declared academically ineligible to play. Spicer told Matt Wellens of the Duluth News Tribune in July of last year that he was leaving hockey for the time being.
Prior to logging onto the transfer site to play for Arizona, Spicer returned to collegiate hockey two months later.
Spicer led the US Hockey League’s Dubuque Fighting Saints with 35 points in 37 games the previous season after being selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
Spicer has two more years of NCAA eligibility, but it’s unknown what he will do next.
