Charlie McAvoyslip was not among the top 10 defenseman in the most recent NHL Network rankings. He didn’t fall very far, though.
McAvoy’s ranking on the Top 20 Defenseman Right Now list was No. 11, four spots lower than the previous year. Due to an AC joint injury and infections sustained during the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off, the Boston Bruins defenceman played in just 50 games during the 2024–25 season.
McAvoy scored seven goals and provided sixteen assists in his 50 games. In addition, he recorded 89 hits and 81 blocks.
Those ranked higher than McAvoy included Evan Bouchard of the Edmonton Oilers, Roman Josi of the Nashville Predators, Victor Hedman of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks, and Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche.
McAvoy is anticipated to be prepared to begin the 2025–2026 campaign. One former NHL player emphasized the significance of McAvoy, who has been a vital member of Boston’s blue line.
Thomas Hickey stated recently on NHL Network that the Bruins follow his lead. He’s got some edge and some growl. He is a large, powerful man. But when I see him play, his confidence is what I notice most. He radiates it throughout the ice.
It wouldn’t be shocking to see the veteran’s game improve in 2025–2026 with defensive-minded coach Marco Sturm in charge and McAvoy’s drive to recover this season.
