Hugo Gonz lez, a 6-foot-5 guard/forward selected by Boston six days prior, was signed by the Celtics in the 2025 first-round draft.
The deal’s terms were not revealed. Since it was the first time the Celtics had selected a Spanish player in the draft, the selection was historic.
After playing for Real Madrid in Spain for the previous three seasons, Gonz lez, who will wear number 28, was chosen with the 28th overall choice. During the 2022–2023 season, the Madrid native made his senior team debut with Real Madrid.
When he joined the squad at the age of 16, he became the fourth-youngest player in franchise history.
Gonz Lez averaged 15.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.9 steals, and 1.3 blocks across eight games, earning him the title of 2023-24 EuroLeague U18 Adidas Next Generations Tournament Finals MVP. Gonz Lez, who averaged 17.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.6 steals, and 1.6 blocks in 27.9 minutes per game, was also awarded the 2022–23 EuroLeague ANGT Rising Star. This past season, he made 69 appearances for Real Madrid.
