After being shot and tased by police, the man who authorities say put an end to a riotous crime spree by slamming a car-jacketed garbage truck into the guard rail of an Everett bridge will be charged with at least nine crimes.
Admilson Vizcaino, 33, of Malden, will face charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, armed assault to rob, leaving the scene of a collision that caused property damage, two instances of armed carjacking, and four counts of attempted armed carjacking. According to the office of the Middlesex District Attorney, additional charges could be brought.
Vizcaino will be arraigned on the allegations at a later, undisclosed date. According to the Middlesex DA’s office, he is in critical condition at a nearby hospital.
Vizcaino’s alleged illicit activities generated quite a stir in Everett, where the significant police response resulted in the closure of multiple roads and hours of traffic gridlock in several other municipalities.
However, recent investigative information reveals that the Everett Police Department initially alluded to his brief purported joyride in a Republic Services garbage truck just before 4 p.m., which ended with an accident into the guardrail of the Alford Street Bridge. Thursday was only the culmination of a multi-municipality, hours-long drama.
At 12:45 p.m., it all began. Authorities say that on Thursday, Medford police responded to a 911 call about someone acting strangely at a nearby gas station. The Middlesex DA claims that the person was Vizcaino. Authorities claim that Vizcaino had left when they got there, so they sent out a BOLO alert to other law enforcement agencies to keep an eye out for him and the black Chevrolet SUV he was driving.
The car allegedly failed to stop when Stoneham police officers attempted to pull it over fifteen minutes later. An hour later, a man in the suspect car reported shoplifting at a 7/11, which prompted the Billerica police to get involved.
A member of Vizcaino’s family then informed Malden police that he was at a house there at approximately 3:15 p.m. Authorities claim that Vizcaino fled the scene in his black Chevrolet when police arrived. Vizcaino was chased by police until he entered Everett.
Vizcaino allegedly crashed his car into several cars on Broadway close to the Encore Boston Harbor casino and Mystic Street, rendering his own car unusable, prompting Everett police to pursue and seek the Massachusetts State Police for help.
Then, according to the Middlesex DA’s office, he fell out of his automobile and tried to carjack several other cars in the area while brandishing a knife. With Everett officers and MSP troopers encircling him, Vizcaino allegedly threw his knife at them. The Middlesex DA said that troopers then tasered him. Despite being fired at by police, he persisted on foot and eventually managed to carjack a Republic Services garbage truck.
According to the authorities, he was apprehended after operating the garbage truck for approximately 0.5 miles before to the bridge collision.
Police discovered four gasoline canisters in Vizcaino’s Chevrolet, which he reportedly had with him since his stop at the 7/11 in Billerica, according to the Middlesex DA’s office.
