After twenty years, J.P. Licks has closed one of its stores.

As of June 25, the J.P. Licks located at One Brigham Circle in Mission Hill, Boston, was permanently closed, according to a statement given to MassLive and posted on the chain’s website.

The announcement said, “J.P. Licks has formally closed our location at One Brigham Circle following the end of our lease after more than 20 wonderful years serving the Mission Hill community.”

It went on to say, “We are incredibly appreciative of the numerous memories and the devoted clients who have helped us over the years.” Even though we will miss living in this energetic neighborhood, Mission Hill will always have a special place in our hearts. I’m grateful for the decades of community, smiles, and scoops.

The 16 J.P. Licks locations in Greater Boston, which include Brookline, Somerville, Cambridge, Wellesley, Newton, Andover, Lynnfield, and Dedham, were established in Jamaica Plain in 1981. The company supplies coffee and items throughout the continental United States and produces all of its ice cream and ice cream cakes in-house at the original site.

The well-known ice cream company has won more than 300 Best of Boston accolades in the past 43 years, including Boston Magazine’s Best of Boston 2021 title. Additionally, J.P. Licks received the 2006 Small Business of the Year award from the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce.
