A terrible five-vehicle collision on Highway 103 West over the weekend left multiple people injured, including one who may have suffered life-threatening injuries.
A 2012 Honda Accord, a 2007 Toyota Tacoma, a 2025 Ford F150, a 2024 International Truck pulling a box trailer, and a 2007 GMC Yukon collided at the top of a hill at approximately 5:48 PM.
The Incident
The collision occurred near a fast-passing lane intended to assist trucks having difficulty climbing a hill.
The driver of the Honda Accord, Kathryn Hoyt, 24, of Lufkin, slowed down for an unspecified reason, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) report. The Honda was forced into the eastbound lane after being struck from behind by the Toyota Tacoma.
The GMC Yukon, Ford F150, and International Truck struck the Honda after it had moved into the other lane. Kathryn Hoyt, the driver of the Honda, was taken to HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe for treatment after suffering potentially fatal injuries.
Other Injuries and Aftermath
All of the other passengers in the involved cars, including those in the Ford, GMC, and Toyota, were transported to nearby Lufkin hospitals after suffering non-life-threatening injuries. Thankfully, the semi-truck driver was unharmed in the collision.
Local Authorities and Community Impact
First responders arrived at the scene of the collision, and the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office advised drivers to avoid the area by taking other routes, like FM 2021 to Highway 69.
