The Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office said Monday that a former Lyft driver was arrested Sunday for raping a rider in his vehicle after transporting her to her Somerville residence the day before.
According to a news statement from the district attorney’s office, Luis Carlos Ramos Teixeira, 27, of Brockton, has been charged with rape and indecent assault and battery against an individual who is older than 14.
The ride-sharing app business stated in a statement on Monday that the behavior portrayed is unacceptable and has no place in the Lyft community or society. In addition to permanently banning the driver from the Lyft platform and being available to help law authorities in their investigation, we have been in contact with the rider to offer support.
On Saturday, August 9, Teixeira picked up a lady in Boston while driving for Lyft and took her to her Somerville home, according to the district attorney’s office. When he drove to the woman’s house, he allegedly climbed into the back seat of his car and raped her.
Later that day, while receiving treatment at a nearby hospital, the woman told officers about what had transpired, and Somerville detectives started looking into the matter, according to the district attorney’s office. Police recognized Teixeira as the culprit after speaking with the victim, and they were able to secure an arrest warrant for him.
According to the district attorney’s office, Teixeira was located and taken into custody in Brockton on Sunday, August 10, by detectives from Somerville, Massachusetts State Police, and Brockton police. He was detained without bail until a dangerousness hearing on Friday after being charged at Somerville District Court on Monday.
