Former Patriots 3rd-round pick gets another NFL shot. Can he stay healthy?

Edge rusherRonnie Perkinsis back in the NFL after a stint in the UFL. The Atlanta Falcons said on Monday that they had acquired the third-round pick of the 2021 New England Patriots.

The 25-year-old Perkins is currently in his fifth season and is hoping to make his first significant NFL pass rusher breakout. However, he did find some success last year with the UFL s Birmingham Stallions.

Perkins holds a special place in the history of the Patriots. The third-round pick used to draft him was thecompensatory selection New England got in return for Tom Bradyleaving in free agency.

Prior to being placed on injured reserve, Perkins had five appearances and recorded 17 tackles and 3.5 sacks.

A recurrent feature throughout Perkins’ career has been injuries. The former Oklahoma pass rusher was placed on injured reserve in New England for the first two seasons. Later, at the conclusion of training camp in 2023, he was cut.

Perkins then landed with the Denver Broncos, appearing in seven games that season, recording 13 tackles and one quarterback hit. Perkins has not yet recorded a sack in the NFL.

In 2024, Perkins rejoined the Broncos, although he was waived in the middle of September after going on injured reserve once more. He later joined the practice squad of the Arizona Cardinals.
