Texas’s McAllen After firing dozens of shots at federal officers at a U.S. Border Patrol facility in Texas on Monday, an assault rifle-wielding man wounded a police officer before being shot and killed by authorities.

The gunman was identified by authorities as Ryan Louis Mosqueda, a 27-year-old man who allegedly fired at agents leaving the building, which is located close to the border between the United States and Mexico. When federal authorities returned fire, Mosqueda was wearing a utility vest, according to McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez.

According to police spokeswoman Heriberto Caraveo, Mosqueda’s father was pulled over by Weslaco police at 2:30 a.m. for a traffic infraction just hours prior to the attack in McAllen. According to Caraveo, the father reported to authorities that he was searching for his son, who he claimed had mental health problems and was carrying weapons in his vehicle.

According to the police, the driver’s side door of the white two-door automobile Mosqueda drove to the facility had letters painted on it, probably in Latin.

When questioned about the graffiti, Rodriguez responded, “I don’t know what it means, or whether it is an underlying reason for him being here.”

Law officials discovered additional weapons, ammunition, and backpacks inside the car after Mosqueda was slain.

Rodriguez stated that his rucksack contains an enormous amount of additional rounds of ammunition.

According to Rodriguez, at approximately 5:50 a.m., his department received a report regarding the incident. A 10-year experienced officer was hurt after being hit in the knee while responding to the shooting. Rodriguez said it was difficult to determine whether the wound was caused by a bullet or shrapnel.

Mosqueda was reported missing from a Weslaco, Texas, residence at roughly 4 a.m. on Monday, although police claim he was connected to a Michigan address. The Border Patrol facility is around 20 kilometers from Weslaco.

He opened fire on the federal building and our federal agents at this specific spot an hour and a few minutes later, Rodriguez added.

The media was not immediately provided with the specifics of the missing person report.

Although it is uncertain whether any other individuals were involved in the incident, Rodriguez stated that there is no current threat to the public. He stated that the FBI is heading the ongoing investigation, which includes the motive and circumstances leading up to the incident.

The assault occurs as the administration of President Donald Trump increases deportations, which will be accelerated by a large funding bill signed into law last week. The president’s principal architect of his immigration policies and deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller, recently established a goal of at least 3,000 immigration arrests per day, up from roughly 650 per day in the first five months of the administration.
