Before lunch on Thursday, a plume of smoke was visible throughout the South Lufkin neighborhood due to a dramatic home fire. At 11:35 AM, the Lufkin Fire Department received a complaint about a house fire at 2200 Champions Drive in the Crown Colony subdivision.
The house was completely enveloped in flames when firefighters arrived, and minutes later the roof fell. The Lufkin Daily News said that the fire spread to a neighboring residence due to its fierce burning.
At the time of the fire, the house, which was occupied by a couple and their dog, was vacant. Sadly, KTRE reports that the dog did not make it through the fire.
Firefighters Respond Quickly to the Blaze
The fire service responded quickly, sending all of its on-duty personnel to the location. In order to combat the fire, they also dispatched seven emergency responders who were not on duty, according to Fire Chief Jesse Moody. As units rushed toward the fire, several sirens could be heard.
Several cars can be seen in the driveway in photos taken at the scene, including a Cadillac SUV that looks to have been damaged because of its close proximity to the garage.
Cause Still Unknown, Investigation Underway
Investigations are still underway, and no official statement regarding the cause of the fire has been made as of yet. This fire is the latest in a string of similar accidents that have occurred in the Crown Colony area.
A very similar fire happened in Baltrusol Court on a Saturday morning in January 2023. The house and every car in the garage were totally destroyed, but fortunately the family managed to get away. Luckily, that fire did not destroy any additional homes.
