Attorneys in the case made their closing arguments
on Friday
, allowing for roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes of deliberation before jurors were released for the weekend. They returned Monday for their first full day deliberation that will
decide the fate
of Read, a 45-year-old Mansfield former college lecturer and financial analyst.
She’s accused of mowing down her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer
John O’Keefe
, in the early hours of Jan. 29, 2022, and leaving him to freeze and die on a Canton front yard.
Read
faces charges
of second-degree murder, OUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of a death.
During verdict watch, Dedham has become home to a nearly outdoor music festival atmosphere as hundreds of her supporters come in their signature pink clothes.
Outside a “buffer zone” surrounding Norfolk Superior Court, her supporters hold signs and speak amongst themselves in the community that has cropped up over ahead of the first trial last year and continues today. They have recently adopted the sign for “love” in American Sign Language to signal support for Read as they are not allowed to make much noise inside the zone.
Her detractors
who were present last year have not been as present, if at all, in recent days.
This is a developing story.
