Kingston Police’s wild, 50-mile pursuit: ‘We’ll chase you until your wheels fall off — literally’

In what was said to be an action-packed pursuit, the Kingston Police Department tracked down suspected burglars for almost fifty miles.

Let this be a warning to anyone who might think of perpetrating such acts in our community. Avoid taking a chance. Not in Kingston. The police officer posted on Facebook, “We’ll literally chase you until your wheels fall off.”

It all began when a woman reported to the police just after three in the morning that many individuals were actively stealing her haul trailer and jet ski. A chase started when responding police noticed the suspect’s dark pickup truck, which had reportedly been stolen from Rhode Island, leaving the area with a jet ski on a trailer.

After calling for assistance from the Massachusetts State Police, who placed stop sticks on the road that ruptured the truck’s tires, local police pursued the vehicle down Main Street, several state highways, and onto Interstate 195 West toward downtown New Bedford.

According to the authorities, the car then drove at over 90 mph on its rims alone, sending debris flying in its path and colliding with a Kingston authorities Department cruiser that was pursuing, showering the officer with broken glass. Even after the stolen jet ski and trailer flew off the truck, the officer pursued the vehicle for 47 miles.

According to the police, three suspects escaped on foot after the pickup vehicle crashed near New Bedford and caught fire. Officers stopped one of them and handcuffed him after he ran into oncoming traffic on the freeway.

The suspect that was taken into custody is Livan Sarit, a 21-year-old Providence, Rhode Island resident.

Sadly for the remaining suspects, a Kingston Police representative stated that the inquiry into their whereabouts is still ongoing because so much digital and physical evidence was found during the incident. Rest good tonight, gentlemen. We’ll see you soon. Don’t worry, we extradite from Rhode Island. We are certain that several warrants will be issued in this case soon.
