According to his lawyer, the man who shot King of the Hill star Jonathan Joss dead outside his San Antonio home was defending himself.
Police said that over the past two years, Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, 56, and Joss and his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, have had frequent neighborhood arguments.

Texas residents are entitled to avoid becoming victims. Nico LaHood, the defense lawyer, told local ABC affiliate KSAT that you have the right to self-defense. Legally and legally, you have the right to defend third parties, and we think that’s the case here.
LaHood further maintained that, contrary to what his husband has maintained on several occasions, Joss’ sexual orientation was not the driving force behind the crime. The lawyer informed KVDA, a local Telemundo station, that Alvarez has a gay brother whom he supports.
In a Facebook post, Gonzales said that before shooting Joss dead, Alvarez was shouting violent homophobic epithets at the couple. He claimed that Alvarez harassed the two frequently and was overtly homophobic.
LaHood told KSAT that the charge of a hate crime is wholly inconsistent with his personality. Sexual orientation is unrelated to this. This is related to the neighborhood’s lengthy history of suffering.
Investigators said that on June 1, after what seemed to be a fight at the house, Alvarez shot and killed Joss. Josshold was seen wielding a pitchfork outside his home in a video purportedly captured just prior to the deadly altercation.
Joss, 59, was most recognized for his voice acting work on King of the Hill and his numerous Parks and Recreation appearances.
