Two rookies who were recently cut by the Tennessee Titans are being used by the New England Patriots to cover a few roster gaps.
The Patriots revealed the signings of defensive lineman Philip Blidi and running back Micah Bernard on Tuesday. In matching moves, the team also cut cornerback Tre Avery and defensive end Jereme Robison to clear space on the roster.
On May 8, Bernard and Blidi, both undrafted rookies, signed contracts with the Tennessee Titans.
During his undergraduate career, the 5-foot-10, 206-pound Bernard played in 47 games as a productive running back for Utah. Tennessee cut him on June 2.
In the meanwhile, the 6-foot-3, 297-pound Blidi played collegiately for Auburn, Indiana, and Texas Tech. On Sunday, the Titans released him.
The Patriots now have some depth at positions that have been thinned out by injuries thanks to the two acquisitions.
Terrell Jennings, a second-year running back, has recently missed practice. Isaiah Iton, a defensive lineman, recently had his season ended after being placed on injured reserve.
