Authorities said late Saturday that a boat capsized in the Merrimack River and that first responders in Salisbury and Newburyport are looking for a missing boater.

Responders from the Newburyport Fire, Police, and Harbormaster arrived in the Merrimack River at around 4:04 p.m. on Saturday to assist the U.S. Coast Guard with reports of a capsized boat.

Before the 47-foot yacht started to absorb water and sink, two persons had departed from the Salisbury Marina, according to Newburyport Police and Fire’s preliminary investigation.

According to the agency, one individual who was on board at the time of the event was rescued by the Coast Guard and transported by medical helicopter to a nearby hospital. The person’s condition was not immediately updated by officials on Sunday.

As of late Saturday, the other passenger was still unaccounted for.

According to officials, on Saturday, mutual aid was being provided by the Coast Guard, Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, Newbury Police and Fire, Salisbury Police, Salisbury Fire, Salisbury Harbormaster, and Atlantic Ambulance.

As of Saturday evening, public safety officers were still on the scene, but the boat had sunk into the Merrimack River.
