When the Orioles visit Fenway Park for a two-game series starting Monday night, the Boston Red Sox will get their first glimpse at MLB’s eighth-ranked prospect.
Before Sunday’s game against the Houston Astros, Baltimore brought up catcher/first baseman Samuel Basalloon. He will be the designated hitter for the Orioles.
In 76 games at Triple-A Norfolk, Basallo slashed.270/.377/.589 with 23 home runs and 67 RBI. With 33 games at catcher, 20 at first base, and 20 at DH at Triple-A, the 2021 international signed demonstrated his versatility.
It’s insane. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen anyone get hit like that. Dylan Beavers, an Orioles No. 3 prospect, told reporters about Basallo via MLB.com that he is a very excellent hitter. “I see what you see,” Beavers remarked on Saturday afternoon. I hope we get to see him soon. He belongs here since he is very good.
The Orioles, who enter Sunday’s game with a 56-67 record and are at the bottom of the American League East standings, will probably be able to take use of Basallo’s versatility for the rest of the season.
