EAGAN, Minn. Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been almost fully available since the first day of training camp and has escaped the PUP list, but he has not announced his availability for Week 1.
On her podcast, Scoop City, Dianna Russini of The Athletic asked Diggs if he will be prepared for Week 1.

I feel fantastic. I’m constantly pushing the needle. I never do less than more. Diggs stated, “We’ll see about Week 1.” I am unsure about my feelings regarding it. We shall see. The coaches aren’t really thrilled. I’m not overly thrilled. I’m just attempting to live each day as it comes. So we’ll see. It appears that we just do not know where it will go. Yes, indeed.
Diggs deferred to head coach Mike Vrabel when Russini attempted to clarify his situation.
I’m not sure. Diggs stated, “It’s up in the air right now.” You should speak with Coach Vrabel about that.
During training camp, Diggs has occasionally appeared to be the consistent 1,000-yard receiver he has been since 2018. In late October, Diggs suffered an ACL tear.
He performed well in both 1-on-1 and 7-on-7 drills during Wednesday’s joint practice with his old team, the Vikings.
It was remarkable in and of itself that he was prepared for the start of training camp. He is anticipated to be in charge of a wide receiver corps that will include Kyle Williams, Mack Hollins, DeMario Douglas, and Kayshon Boutte. Other Patriots wide receivers vying for roster spots include Kendrick Bourne, Efton Chism, Ja Lyn Polk, and Javon Baker.
Diggs did not play in last week’s Patriots preseason opener against the Commanders. On WEEI earlier this week, Vrabel referred to it as a coach’s decision.
On Wednesday, he elaborated on those remarks.
“I think that volume is good and being able to come back and have a good day in the red zone,” Vrabel said. “I think that the same thing that goes into most decisions is that we just try to communicate with the staff, personnel staff, and training staff and see where we are with the player and how much work he’s getting at practice.”All we’re attempting to do is keep tabs on how this might play out for our veteran guys this season. In the end, I believe it’s a good experience to try to get every player exactly what they need to be prepared for the season. It’s also important to consider how things are going week-to-week once the season starts.
