Boston Masataka Yoshida returns to the Red Sox lineup on Saturday as they look to improve on their league-best home record and play the Miami Marlins again.
To give Yoshida a break, the Red Sox sat him on Friday. After he missed the first three months of the season recuperating from shoulder surgery last October, the Red Sox are attempting to control his workload somewhat.
Even though the Sox will be playing righthander Cal Quantrill on Saturday, Romy Gonzalez is listed at first base. Abraham Toro’s difficulties, as he has been hitting below.200 for the past 47 games, may be the cause of that.
Brayan Bello, the starting pitcher, will be paired with Connor Wong for the Sox. Over the season, Wong and Bello have gotten along well, with the former receiving around three-quarters of Bello’s starts.
It will be intriguing to observe whether there are any repercussions from last July, when Quantrill, who was with Colorado at the time, started a bench-clearing altercation after making some remarks to Reese McGuire, the catcher for the Sox at the time. After the game, several Red Sox players were so enraged that they talked about looking for Quantrill in the Coors Field parking lot.
