Boston Despite having a rough July, Boston’s first baseman Abraham Toro will bat cleanup on Friday.

At 7:10 p.m., the Red Sox and Astros will begin a three-game series at Fenway Park.

Apple TV+ will broadcast the game.

In 21 games (78 plate appearances) in July, Toro batted.221 with a.295 on-base percentage,.279 slugging percentage,.574 OPS, and just four extra-base hits (all doubles). In his last 55 at-bats, he has only managed 10 hits (.182).

Toro has hit cleanup three times this season, the most recent being in San Francisco on June 20. Wilyer Abreu, a right fielder, will bat seventh.

Craig Breslow, the chief baseball officer, stated that the Red Sox spent a considerable amount of time attempting to acquire a bat, but he neglected to address the first base position at the deadline.

Houston will start right-hander Hunter Brown (9-5, 2.54 ERA) against Cooper Criswell (1-0, 5.06 ERA), a right-hander for the Red Sox.

This season, the 29-year-old Criswell is making his first major league spot start. He has pitched in 14 games (13 starts) with a 3.32 ERA at Triple-A Worcester for the most of the season.
