Red Sox lineup: Veteran lefty called back up, Nathaniel Lowe to play DH

Published On:

Before the series finale against the Orioles on Tuesday, the Red Sox made a change to their bullpen by calling up left-hander Brennan Bernardino.

The Red Sox also optioned left-hander Jovani Moran to Triple-A in order to make room on the active roster.

Despite being optioned to Triple-A on August 1 to make way for recently acquired lefty Steven Matz, Bernardino has been one of Boston’s most used relievers this season, ranking fourth on the team with 47 appearances. Since then, Bernardino has only played four games for the WooSox, so he should be considerably more rested going into the final stretch.

Bernardino had a 3.09 ERA over 43.2 innings before being optioned. After being promoted, Moran had two appearances in the major leagues and pitched four innings while giving up three earned runs.

Nathaniel Lowe is in the Red Sox starting lineup as the designated hitter for the first time after making his team debut off the bench. Jarren Duran will start in center, Roman Anthony in right, and Masataka Yoshida in left field.

Carlos Narvaez, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Wilyer Abreu are not included in the starting lineup.
