Red Sox manager Alex Cora spent time in ‘war room’ on trade deadline day; ‘It was crazy’

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora had the opportunity to watch the team’s Baseball Operations staff in action in the final hours before Thursday’s MLB trading deadline.

Cora, who had been at Alex Bregman’s son’s birthday party with his two boys in the early afternoon, was intrigued and made a visit at Fenway on his way home.

“Interesting,” Cora remarked. It was an excellent learning experience, and I had never been in the room during that time. A large number of people were present.

Cora cracked when asked what he had learnt, saying, “I’ll keep it to myself and use it for my future.”

Cora has already stated that he could be open to working in the front office in the future.

According to Cora, I arrived late in the afternoon. It was insane. How they do it is beyond me. Just to be around, I did it. To be honest, I merely wanted to see since we had plans after the celebration. (In that atmosphere) I had never been. I haven’t been.

It was an eye-opening experience.

“Dude, people really grind,” he added. Although they had been grinding for weeks, I only saw a portion of it. There are numerous phone conversations and moving components. To tell the truth, it’s crazy. It was entertaining to observe. I was merely sitting on the couch and observing people; I didn’t have to make any decisions. It was a worthwhile educational experience.

The last hour, when the Red Sox finalized the trade that sent pitcher Dustin May to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for two prospects, was anarchy, according to Cora.

He described it as feeling that way. Like what you’re seeing on social media—very, very quickly. Next is the MLB Network, which is like, Holy Shoot. It’s New Year’s Eve in the final five minutes.

It was temporarily and incorrectly claimed that the Sox had acquired from the Twins due to an error made by various social media aggregators.

“I didn’t see that one,” Cora laughed. I knew more, bro.
