With the use of artificial intelligence, one forward-thinking company based in Massachusetts is encouraging customers to make their own decisions in the era of innumerable skincare products and procedures.
Customers who step into SmartSKN s Boston K-Beauty AI Lab, whichopened on Aug. 1, are greeted by either CEO Val Neicu or one of her associates. However, there s one employee who is the true star of the show: BALI.
Located in SmartSKN’s labs around the United States, BALI is one of the company’s five sophisticated robots. There are two in Beverly, one each in Boston, Minnesota, and Los Angeles.
The bionic-arm-like Korean-made robots combine substances according to a customized recipe derived from a skincare study.
After the components are dispensed into bottles by the robots, customers receive a customized product tailored to their skin type in about five minutes.
The data we gather from over 150,000 diverse skin profiles worldwide allows us to create highly customized skin care formulas, Neicu said. By applying artificial intelligence (AI) to manufacturing, we are able to create items in real time according to certain skin types, sensitivities, and objectives.
SmartSKN s skincare analysis is done with the use of a Muilli AI Dermascope. The gadget measures the amount of oil and moisture in the skin, takes sixty-times magnified photos of it, and transfers all of that data to an app where users can complete a skin health survey. Customers answered questions about wrinkles, tightness, dark patches, hyperpigmentation, oiliness, and dryness here.
The questionnaire’s results then show the type of skin that clients have and the items that would be most effective for them. From there, they can choose which of SmartSKN s three products they d like the robot to make: a serum, ampoule or lotion.
The lotion costs $75, the ampoule costs $95 and the serum costs $85.
A variety of boosters, ranging from elastin, lifting, and soothing to brightening and moisturizing, can also be added to each product. Boosters are ordinarily $14.99 apiece, but SmartSKN is giving them away for free for a short period of time in celebration of the Boston lab’s recent opening.
The robot, in this case BALI, creates the final products when they are selected. All of the substances used in the products have undergone clinical testing and been authorized for use in commercial goods.
According to Neicu, it is completely safe and complies with all laws. This has to be tested for stability. There is some biochemistry involved, but it is completely safe to use.
Customers should, however, be mindful of their skin type and any potential negative reactions to unfamiliar goods. A comprehensive list of all the ingredients used in each product is included in SmartSKN’s study to aid with this. After their analysis or appointment, customers can access this list by scanning the QR code on the product label, which will take them to their SmartSKN profile.
However, in order for SmartSKN to notify the FDA of any adverse reactions, customers must get in touch with the company right away. Neicu added that the robots’ inventiveness is demonstrated by the fact that they can create 25,000 formulas.
I’m not aware of anything comparable on the market. In a situation like [this] one, there is nothing at all that can provide a highly customized product based on an analysis in a matter of minutes, she said. If there was, I believe we would learn about it quickly.
“I think this is the future of manufacturing and creating products,” Neicu went on. I believe that many things will be produced precisely and in novel ways using robotic and artificial intelligence technology on demand. However, this is only the beginning, and this technology is extremely unique at the moment.
Neicu sees her company as a major participant in the personalization trend observed in the skincare and cosmetics industries, in addition to believing that SmartSKN is a breakthrough in the delivery of professional skincare.
Consumers choose goods that are tailored to their needs. This isn’t breaking news. According to her, people have always desired it, but now they want it with scientific support. The perceptions of consumers toward brands and products have evolved. It became very saturated, almost like a bubble. And in my opinion, the consumer is currently moving away from that.
In addition to providing more personalized skincare products, SmartSKN helps to cut down on mass production of cosmetics by reducing waste and eliminating excess packaging.
The fact that we can make it fast, that s amazing, Neicu said.
“We don’t have a mass-produced warehouse with millions of bottles that we have to sell when we make products on demand, just when they’re needed,” she continued. This truly streamlines the product development process.
In the end, those who are concerned about their skin want a product that will be the most effective for them and not waste time trying to locate one that is. Neicu believes SmartSKN is capable of meeting both these needs in a more efficient manner.
We don t need more products; we need better products, Neicu emphasized. Not only are we altering how individuals take care of their skin, but we are also altering our perception of beauty in general by utilizing AI to develop customized formulas and reduce waste.
