Rockland police ask public to help ID man who grabbed woman in the woods

Police are asking the public to help them identify a man who they say grabbed a woman while she walked her dog in Rockland Town Forest on Wednesday.

The woman reported to police that she encountered the man while walking in the forest, and he made “inappropriate comments” at her, Rockland police said in a press release. As she tried to walk away from him, he “aggressively” grabbed her arm, she said.

The woman told police her dog responded by lunging at the man, who then let go of her, police said. She then ran out of the woods to her car.

Officers searched the forest for the suspect after receiving the woman’s report but failed to locate him, police said.

The woman described the suspect as a white man of medium build with graying, dark-colored, medium-length hair who is likely in his 50s. He had no facial hair, no visible scars or tattoos and was wearing a light-colored t-shirt, khaki shorts and sneakers, she told police.

Rockland police are asking anyone with information about the suspect or who may have security video footage of the man to contact them at 781-871-3890, ext. 0. They are requesting that people who live or work near the intersection of North Avenue and Salem Street review security footage recorded between 12 and 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
