Spokane Weather Outlook: Hot Temperatures and Elevated Fire Danger

Published On:

Spokane, Washington, is gearing up for some dangerously hot weather as high temperatures are expected to rise into the mid-90s later this week. While triple-digit heat isn’t quite here yet, residents should still prepare for scorching temperatures and heightened fire risks due to dry conditions and gusty winds.

Weather Details for the Week Ahead

The National Weather Service forecasts that Wednesday, July 16, will bring sunny skies and a high near 89°F, followed by an even hotter day on Thursday with a 94°F high.

The heat will peak on Friday, with temperatures reaching 95°F, and gusty winds making it feel even warmer. Winds could reach speeds of 26 mph in the afternoon, creating conditions that may reduce visibility, especially along Interstate 90 due to dust in drier areas.

Heat and Fire Risks

With dry, sunny conditions and strong winds, Spokane is facing an elevated fire risk throughout the week. Residents are urged to be cautious, particularly with outdoor activities.

For those working outside, it’s crucial to drink plenty of water, wear light clothing, and take frequent shade breaks to avoid heat-related illnesses. The highest risks for heat will occur between 1–5 p.m., when the sun is strongest.

Looking Ahead to the Weekend

Relief from the heat is expected to begin Saturday when a cooling trend starts. However, daytime highs will still remain above average for this time of year. Saturday’s high will be around 90°F, with overnight lows in the mid-60s. On Sunday and Monday, highs will dip into the upper 80s, with partly cloudy evenings and no precipitation expected.
