Teen Arrested with Gun Outside Estacado High School in Lubbock

Officials from the Lubbock Independent School District (ISD) and Lubbock Police are looking into an incident that happened outside Estacado High School on Monday morning that resulted in a teenager being arrested.

Teen Arrested After Allegedly Pointing Gun at Another Student

According to Lubbock ISD Police, 18-year-old Therron Hastings Jr. was taken into custody shortly after 8:00 a.m. on school property for allegedly pointing a weapon at another student. The event happened in the school’s parking lot prior to classes starting, though it has not been verified if Hastings is a student there.

Lubbock ISD Responds and Ensures Student Safety

Parents were contacted by Lubbock ISD after the incident to let them know that everything had been settled. The school authority stressed that the suspect was apprehended after campus police were alerted to the firearm.

Lubbock ISD issued the following statement:

Every employee and kid is safe, and the suspect and weapon are in custody. Any kind of weapon on Lubbock ISD property is strictly prohibited. The Lubbock ISD Police Department is still looking into this.

In order to maintain security, the district promised parents that more cops would be on campus all day. The regular schedule for the school day was followed.

Charges Faced by Therron Hastings Jr.

Currently, Hastings is being jailed on a $50,000 bail at the Lubbock County Detention Center. He is charged with several offenses, including:

Using a lethal weapon to aggravate assault

displaying a firearm on school property

Bringing a handgun into a forbidden place without permission
