In San Antonio, Texas, a man has been jailed for allegedly killing his wife and living with her decaying body for over a month. This is a startling and extremely upsetting incident.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office verified this somber discovery, exposing the strange and terrible sequence of events that took place over a few weeks.

Man Accused of Murdering Wife, Then Living with Her Body

Charles Vandoil Byrd was arrested and accused with tampering with evidence after his wife’s death was discovered inside their home wrapped in plastic, according to a Dallas Morning News article.

When the woman’s frightened relative called the police on July 19, fearing for her safety, the inquiry got underway. There was a strong smell of decay when investigators got to the San Antonio home. Her remains were found after an additional search.

Confession and Arrest

On July 20, Charles Byrd was arrested from a separate residence. He allegedly admitted to assaulting and killing his wife on June 16 while being questioned. Byrd acknowledged having a mental breakdown and deciding to live with her body in an effort to cover up the stench, knowing that he would eventually be apprehended, according to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar.

Despite his expectation that law enforcement would find out, he told deputies he was attempting to drag out the procedure.

According to authorities, if the body is formally identified and additional investigation is finished, the charges may be upgraded.

Current Status

At the moment, Charles Byrd is being held without bond at the Bexar County Jail. Although authorities have not yet disclosed the victim’s identify or the precise cause of death, it is confirmed that more charges may be brought in the near future.
