On Thursday, Maddie Smith contributed to her family’s expanding trophy collection.

The 17-year-old, who is the youngest of the Westford sisters, won the New England Women’s Amateur Championship at Haverhill Country Club.

Smith defeated eClub of Connecticut member Amelie Phung by birdieing the second playoff hole. Smith earned the title with a composed eight-foot putt. The first playoff hole was parred by both players.

After nine holes on Tuesday (cut short by the intense heat) and 18 on Wednesday and Thursday, they were tied with an even-par 180.

In the autumn, Smith will be a senior at Westford Academy. Compared to her older sisters Morgan and Molly, the Memphis University-bound athlete doesn’t play as much golf. Molly Smith is one of the best amateur players in New England, and Morgan Smith won the New England Women’s Am championship in 2022 and 2023.

Last month, Maddie Smith won the MIAA North/Central/West girls sectional title.
